What I Brought Home From Deal Makers
Mar 31, 2026What I Brought Home From Deal Makers
I just got back from Deal Makers.
I always come home from events like this with a full notebook and a head full of things I want to act on immediately. Some of it is new. Some of it is a reminder of what I already know but needed to hear again.
Here's what stuck.
🎯 Focused Action vs. Shiny Object Action
Entrepreneurs are really good at taking action. That's one of our greatest strengths.
It's also one of our biggest traps.
We act on everything. Every idea. Every opportunity. Every shiny object that crosses our path. And before long we're busy but not moving.
The goal is not more action. The goal is more focused action.
Pick the thing that moves the needle. Do that. Finish it. Then pick the next thing.
Busy and productive are not the same thing.
🤝 What Leon Johnson Reminded Me
Leon Johnson has a way of saying things that just land. Here are a few that I'm still thinking about.
"Real estate investing is the people business more than the sticks, bricks, and dirt business."
The deal is never just the property. It's the person on the other side of the table. Learn people and the deals follow.
"People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."
This is why trust matters more than tactics. You can know every negotiation trick in the book. If the seller doesn't feel like you're genuinely trying to solve their problem, you're done.
"You don't find deals. You find opportunities."
That's a mindset shift worth sitting with. A deal is a transaction. An opportunity is a problem you can solve for someone. Go looking for problems to solve and the deals take care of themselves.
"Help others have freedom and peace and you'll get what you want."
This is the whole game. When your goal is to genuinely help the person in front of you, everything changes. The conversation changes. The outcome changes. The relationship changes.
By the way, this is what we do in Inside Lifestyle REI.
Say It Again. Then Say It Again.
Something I was reminded of at Deal Makers … some people need to hear things multiple times before it lands.
As investors and educators, we can't assume that because we said it once, people got it. Life is loud. Attention is short. Some people need to hear the same thing three different ways before it clicks.
Don't get frustrated when you have to repeat yourself. Get better at saying it differently.
📱 Stop Downloading and Re-Uploading
This one is practical and most people don't know it.
When you download a video or image from one social media platform and upload it to another, you're hurting yourself.
Each platform puts its own invisible imprint on the file. When you upload that file to a different platform, the algorithm reads that imprint and pushes your content down. It knows you didn't create it natively.
Always go back to the original file. Post natively to each platform.
Small detail. Big difference in reach.
Go to the Events
You can consume content online all day long. And there is a place for that.
But there is something that happens when you get in a room with serious people that no podcast or YouTube video can replicate. The energy is different. The conversations are different. The clarity you leave with is different. This is what we do multiple times a month Inside Lifestyle REI!
Adrian's Takeaway
