The River Taught Me This

That's exactly what The Room was built for.

Over the weekend I was walking along a river in Gunnison, Colorado with Lisa and Thomas.

We stopped for a few minutes just watching the water.

it was flowing hard.  
Strong.
Fast.

And yet somehow it also looked calm and powerful at the same time.

We started talking about how a river is such a perfect analogy for life and business.  Honestly, we could probably write 50 different lessons from that one stretch of water.

Lisa, who used to be a rafting guide 🛶, said something that stuck with me.

 💡When you are p eared and you have the right guide, going into a strong rapid is not that scary or dangerous.💡

That hit.

Not having a guide to go down rapids is a scary thought for the inexperienced.

Every time Ive gone white water rafting, I've hired a guide.

Why?

Because

• The guide knows the river.
• The guide has been there before.
• The guide brings experience I don't have.
• The guide can prepare me for what's coming.
• The guide does not have to guess.

And because of that...

I feel calm.

Not because the river isn't powerful.
Not because the rapids aren't real.
But because I'm not facing them alone.

Businesses the same.  

When you try to run it alone, every rapid feels bigger.  Every turn feels uncertain.  
You're guessing.  
You're reacting.

But when you have guardrails...  
When you have people who've already been downriver.  
When you have a room where you can say, "Here's what I'm facing,"

and get real feedback...

There's ease 😌

That word kept coming to me while we stood there watching the water.

Ease does not mean no current.
Ease means direction
Ease means preparation.
Ease means guidance.
