Someone Put Their Number on My Body Without Asking

Speedo marketing

I picked up my phone to a message that stopped me cold.

Someone had taken my original speedo marketing photo, edited out my branding, put a different phone number on my body, and posted it publicly to grow their business.

No DM. No tag. No permission.

Just my body. Someone else's number.

My first instinct was to fire back publicly. Call it out. Make a point.

But I didn't. And I'm glad I didn't.

There are three lessons in this story worth sharing. And honestly, the biggest lesson isn't about the photo at all.

Lesson 1: Be the Original, Not the Copy 📸

The speedo marketing idea was mine, I came up with it, I wore it, and I stood on that beach and took the photo.

It was memorable enough that someone thought it was worth using.

Here's the thing about marketing that most people miss.

The most powerful marketing is the kind only YOU can do.

Not because it's clever. Not because it's polished. But because it's specific to you. Your story. Your personality. Your brand.

When you copy someone else's marketing you inherit their idea but none of their context. It lands flat because people can feel when something isn't authentic.

Copying buys you attention for a moment. Being original builds a brand that lasts.

Ask ourself: what is the marketing that only I could pull off?

That's the one worth building.

Lesson 2: The Danger of Grabbing AI Content Without Thinking 🤖

Here's where the story gets interesting.

When I reached out to the person who posted it he responded immediately.

"Hey Adrian. I had no clue. It was sent to me. I will delete and redo."

He didn't steal it intentionally. Someone sent him an AI edited version of my photo and he posted it without knowing it wasn't original.

That's the new reality we're living in.

AI makes it incredibly easy to grab, remix, and redistribute content that isn't yours.

Someone used AI to edit my photo. Swapped the branding. Made it look clean. And sent it around like it was fair game.

If you're using AI generated content or content someone sends you, slow down. Ask yourself three questions:

Where did this come from?
Do I know who created the original?
Would I be comfortable if the original creator saw me posting this?

If you can't answer those questions confidently, don't post it.

AI is a powerful tool. But moving fast without thinking is how good people accidentally damage their reputation.

Speed without intention is just recklessness.

Lesson 3: The Right People in Your World Change Everything 👥

This is the lesson I wasn't expecting to write about. But it's the most important one.

When I saw what happened my gut reaction was to respond publicly and fast. I was frustrated. I had every reason to be.

But before I did anything I reached out to two people.

First, a good friend I only know because I've been in the right rooms. Someone I've built a real relationship with through showing up, being consistent, and investing in community. She talked me through it. Helped me see the full picture. Slowed me down before I said something I'd regret.

And my girlfriend Lisa. Same thing. Real conversation. Clear thinking. Perspective I needed.

Because of those two conversations I approached the situation with clarity instead of emotion. I send a calm, direct message to the person who posted it. He responded immediately, apologized, and took it down.

No public drama. No burned bridges. No regret.

The right people in your world don't just make life better. They make you better.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it.

The rooms you choose to be in determine the people who show up for you when it matters.

Masterminds, Communities, and Real relationship built over time. These aren't networking plays. They're life infrastructure.

If you don't have people in your corner who can talk you off the ledge when you first instinct is wrong, that's worth paying attention to.

Adrian's Takeaway

👉 Be so original that copies are obvious. Move with intention not just speed. And build relationships deep enough that when things go sideways you don't have to figure it out alone.
